Frustrated
Well, I have some adorable pictures from Elizabeth and Cosette's birthday that I would have loved to share, but unfortunately I have run into some issues. The pictures that I used to be able to email to my blog for some reason aren't showing up. Sorry about that. I will try to fix the problem ASAP.
Update: I have to be on the laptop to get the pictures. Yet one more issue with the iPad. Grrrrr.

Science
Everyone knows I love science. Well, I had a sick kid today and wanted to cheer him up a bit. This worked really well and got him off the couch for about 30 minutes.
Colored vinegar dropped onto mounds of baking soda. He thought it was too cool. After he mixed the colors in the cups and poured the contents onto the tray, we started over again. He asked for water and I obliged. I did fill one cup with vinegar so he could experience he difference. He told me the water was, "too big" meaning it isn't working right. I then showed him the vinegar. He kept trying to use the water thinking eventually it would work. (stubbornness could lead to a great scientific mind. At least there is one plus to it) He loved mixing he colors together and pouring them back and forth between the cups. These eventually were poured out onto the tray as well.
Great fun for the both of us!

Rant and rave
So I did the good momma thing this morning and took Alex to the whistle stop park. Started out having lots of fun running around with Alex chasing me. All the slides I passed were dry and Alex loves slides, so I decided to run away down the tube slide. Can you guess what I found at the bottom as I was sliding down in my ankle-length skirt?
Poop and pee. Yep, you read that right. Poop and pee. Slid right into it. Saw it at the last second so only the hem of my skirt got in it and I was able to catch Alex before he got into it too. I was so angry.
What kind of parent let's their child poop and pee at the bottom of the slide and does nothing to try to clean it up? (Yes, it was from a kid. I could tell that much.) even if the parent didn't see the accident, the kid's pants had to be off and their bum nasty. Look around and find the poop, even if you don't , or aren't able to clean it up, letting someone else know would be the good choice. I was the first person at the park today and so was the one to experience the grossness. I found my phone and called the parks and leisure department as I was leaving. Wish I had something to rope off the top of the slide so no one else would have to see it up close and personal like I did. Wonder how long the city will take getting it cleaned up.
So home we are now. Watching Sesame Street while I am posting this. So much for our fun morning. Time for laundry.

Cleaning play
The table was really dirty and Alex was bored, so what else was I to do? We got out the shaving cream!

His socks match his tie, too. Many thanks Grandma Franklin for the outfit. Isn't he the cutest?!
Egg hunt
We had an Easter egg hunt in the yard with the neighbors and their friends. Both Alexes had to open each one and eat the candy before going to the next egg. The older boys got a bit antsy with their slowness and so ran ahead grabbing handfuls of eggs and dumping them in their baskets. My Alex ended up with so much candy, he got sick. But, just like his momma, one good belly purge and he was good to run and play again. Momma took the basket away and he diddn't even care.

Monkey see monkey do.
Yesterday, my best friend Amanda picked up Alex and me to go visit Homestead Heritage in Waco. Alex could care less about that place, but he had a great time following her oldest boy, Gabe. Wherever or whatever Gabe did, Alex did, too.

Growing up
The other day I had a stark realization. My son is not a baby anymore. I now have a boy who needs molding, teaching, and a good dose of loving discipline. My parenting is taking a turn and becoming a bit more intense. I love it.
Alex can, and will pull up his own pants after going potty! If you have heard the stories, you know what a triumph that is. He still has potty accidents, but overall is doing well.
He is helping to clean up messes and taking his plates to the sink. On that note, we have had to put away our adult glasses and have purchased plastic ones instead as too many have been taken by little hands and dumped into the kitchen sink where they inevitably shatter.
I am loving bedtime with him more than ever. I have just finished the Winnie the pooh chapter book. I read one chapter each night and he sits and listens so well. I am now saving the little books for a short nap story and trying to find some other chapter books that wouldn't be too far over his understanding. Suggestions are appreciated.

New bed
The new bed turns out to be an XL twin! Well, what can I say, we took it from the side of a dumpster. We are going to have to find a way to rig it to work. The crib matress stuffed at the head will have to change soon.

Since I am not able to upload photos from my iPad, and I am never on any other computer, it is not as easy to post pictures. So here are some recent cuties.

Grandma Franklin got him a guitar for Christmas! Oh how he loves playing this. He even wrote his own song already. It is called, "Grandma!" Those are the lyrics, too. :)

Potty update
Going strong. He is now using the potty at church and waiting to get home when we run to pick Daddy up from work. Yes, there have been some messy accidents, but all said, he is still doing really good.
Christy-he is still asking to play with ZakiJonas almost daily. Can't wait to se you again soon.
He has been going to church 4times a week to play with friends while Mommy gets to study the Bible and work. This is working out really well and is the perfect mix of playtime and Mommy time. We are both much happier because of it. Praise God for such an awesome church!

Potty talk
My baby is using the potty!!!! I couldn't wait any longer, so Wednesday, I decided to go for it. A rough start, but after 2:00 it seemed to have clicked and he was perfect for the rest of the day. Yesterday he had school ( moms morning out) so I put him back in diapers for their sanity. When he got home, diaper, came off and he used the potty again. So far today he has graduated to the big potty in the bathroom with the kid seat on it.
I am a proud momma. Just hope he keeps it up.

Dirt and sadness
For the past few weeks, Alex has spent almost every day shoveling dirt and playing with his second cousins, Zaki and Jonas. Today they left to go back home. I don't think Alex really understands what that means as he is still asking to play in the dirt with "ZakiJonas." Can't wait to see them again in the fall! We love you Bowers!!!!!
On a different topic, Alex is going to start potty training next week. Keep me in your prayers please. We have had to delay it a bit so he could spend more time with his cousins, but the time in now upon us. What fun. Stickers and juice are ready to go, now to get that little potty all cleaned up. My baby is a big boy and has the undies to prove it!!!!

A new boy
I have recently learned something new about my son: along with growing up comes new thought processes. Let me explain. We went to WalMart the other day and Alex found a tractor toy he really wanted. We didn't get it, but for the first time, Alex did NOT forget about it. A couple days later, I mentioned it to Patrick and Alex started whining and asking for it again! I'm not used to a child who remembers things like that. This brings on a whole new way of life and thought on my part. My baby is growing up in more ways than size!

Christmas Difficulties
Oh the strain of keeping secrets is so hard! For those of you who know me well, I don't keep secrets because I physically can't. I always end up giving away the secret because I get so excited to see the other person so happy (or at least pretending to be) and have a hard time trying not to lie in the process. My brother knew this and got me to tell him his presents year after year, each time getting upset that I really told him. Thirty years later and I am still telling secrets.
So what happened? UPS came to deliver some packages which ended up containing Alex's great big present (a really cool Strider Bike). Patrick was home for lunch and I didn't want him to see the gift I got him-the store would have given it away. So I stopped reading Alex his nap time story and ran to the door with the little boy right behind me. Of all the gifts we ordered, his was the only box that showed a picture of what was on the inside instead of the traditional brown. My little boy loves bikes and kept repeating, "bike! bike!" and pushed the box into our room so we could open it for him.
We caved.
I got Alex to sleep after many tears and two books, then I put his bike together. Good thing I got him other things (smaller and less exciting) for him to open on Christmas.

A week in review
Last weekend we went to the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco with some friends from Patrick's job. With all the cool animals around and neat things to look at my son decides the best thing at the zoo is (of all things) the water wheel. It is right beside the otters where there is a clear slide that goes through the otter tank. Other kids there were having a blast going down the slide, but Alex just stood watching the water wheel and getting sprinkled by the over splash. Hmmmm. As soon as the others showed up, Alex enjoyed being led along by a big 10 year old boy and playing with the others around the Orangutan China playground.
Thanksgiving-My very first Thanksgiving at my home. Everything turned out really well with plenty of leftovers. Unfortunately, we finished it all off within just 36 hours. (I really liked the leftover sandwiches) My mother-in-law spent the night as our very first house guest in this apartment. Alex loved having her here and enjoyed the extra attention only Grandmas can give.
With a huge blessing only God could manage-we were able to pay off a majority of our debt leaving only one student loan! We also now are able to buy Christmas presents! I love giving gifts and this year I am so ecstatic that I can shop for everyone. I even got to go out on Black Friday and then online shop during the weekend. So happy I am!

Cutie Pie
Grandma Franklin just got Alex a new trike. We got to put it to use Saturday afternoon during our visit. He has a Spiderman helmet that came to good use as well as the seat belt. Her driveway is a bit steep and I almost toppled him over. Oops! He doesn't know how to pedal so I pushed and steered from behind. Lots of fun!
What do you do on a sprinkling afternoon? Play in the dirt! The rain never really got the ground wet so this was still dirt, not mud. He got plenty dirty and was very upset when it was time to go inside.

Counting
Today as I was taking Patrick to work, I decided to continue counting practice with Alex. We have been working on making it to 5. He does not like saying "one" but loves "two" and "five." I held up one finger and asked him "How many?" He said "one!" He made it all the way to five on his own with just my fingers as help!!! He did it a few times in a row, then just started repeating two and five. I was so excited Patrick was able to hear it himself. Alex thought it was awesome that we cheered for him.
Of course, he won't count any more for me today, but that's okay. I heard him and I am one proud momma!

Pumpkin Patch
Alex had a great time at the pumpkin patch this past Saturday. There were many things to do, but since he was a little fussy when we got there he wanted nothing more than to be held and just watch from a distance. That got me a bit worried until I noticed the haystack. Patrick put him down on it and after seeing that it could be fun, Alex decided to run around and bounce in the hay. And what did they have right next to it but two tether ball games. He didn't really play much, but he loved watching the other kids whack the ball around the pole. This got his spirits up to enjoy the rest of the fun.
The train ride was his favorite by far. He rode it three times in a row! The conductor even did an extra circle during the last trip to mix it up a bit for him. He didn't really smile or talk, but his little tush was firmly planted and was not going to move until he had finished his ride. When the tickets ran out, I had to do some clever redirecting to the haystack and tether ball games to get him off. We were so proud of him since it is not like him to ride something like that without being on one of our laps and there wasn't even a slight hint of anxiety in him. He is such a big, independent boy now!
So for only $9, and a 20 minute car ride our little man got a full morning of fun. Needless to say he scarfed down his lunch and was more than willing to take a nap when we got home. Grandma Franklin was there when he woke up so his fun didn't end at the Pumpkin Patch either.
Ahh, I love autumn!
